Partners/Initiatives
United Way works to build and improve community by bringing together individuals in business, government, health, labor, education and human services, developing initiatives to address aspects of community need. We also work with partner agencies to make sure that the people in our communities have access to the services they need.
Initiatives
~ Helping to feed the hungry.. United Way partners with the National Association of Letter Carriers every year on the second Saturday in May to bring together the community in the largest single one day food drive in the world. The generosity of those living in Western New York has been overwhelming! For the past 5 years, our region has ranked in the top three communities in food collected! Thanks Western New York.
~ We partnered in WNY to launch 211 for our community. This program helps alleviate the burden on the 911 system by providing information and referral, volunteer opportunities, and disaster/emergency systems for our community. To find out more about the 211 program go to www.211wny.org
Partners
For over 65 years, Organized Labor and United Way have had a partnership. This partnership is based on the common principle that each organization has, improving the quality of life in our communities and helping our friends and neighbors.
The Niagara Quality Improvement Program for local Daycare Centers launched in the fall of 2010 The Niagara Area Foundation, Niagara University and the United Way have teamed up together to invest in the must vunerable population - our children. This program will target 10 daycare centers in Lockport and Niagara Falls to help improve children's readiness for kindergarten. Studies prove that for every $1 investment in a child the return on your investment is $16. Our thanks to the Grigg-Lewis Foundation and the Peter & Elizabeth Tower Foundation for providing the necessary funding to launch this program.
